Scopia Surgical has raised CAN$2.65 million in an oversubscribed pre-seed round to advance its AI-powered surgical navigation system toward initial clinical evaluation.

Linearis Ventures and Anges Québec co-led the financing, with participation from Fonds Impulsion, an initiative of the Quebec government managed by Investissement Québec, along with HaloHealth, Richard Rubin, Suresh Madan and other investors.

The Montreal-based company said it will use the funding to expand its engineering and clinical teams, accelerate product development and begin clinical validation of its Scopia Surgical Navigation system across several hospitals in Canada and the U.S.

Scopia is developing real-time AI-powered navigation for minimally invasive and robotic surgery. The system is designed to bring information from preoperative imaging into the operating room in real time while working with equipment hospitals already use.

“Our goal is to bring the full richness of preoperative imaging into the operating room, in real time on the systems hospitals already own to reduce complications and optimize surgical outcomes”, co-founder and CEO Gabriel Rivest said in the announcement.

Linearis Ventures said it backed Scopia based on the company’s approach to applying physical AI in surgical care, while Anges Québec pointed to the system’s compatibility with existing operating-room equipment as part of its investment rationale.
