Google and Accenture Deepen AI Push as Chrome Accelerates Release Cycle to Fight Security Threats

Google is moving aggressively on two fronts to strengthen its position in the AI era: speeding up how quickly Chrome ships updates, and deepening its enterprise AI partnership with Accenture.

Chrome has officially shifted from a four-week to a two-week release schedule, with Chrome 153 launching Tuesday across desktop, iOS, and Android. Google said the faster cadence is tied to its evolving security strategy, as AI tools and community bug reports have increased the volume of patches needed, while AI-related threats demand quicker fixes. The change also lets Chrome ship new features, including AI additions, more rapidly, as AI-assisted development has fueled a wave of new browser competitors such as Brave, Dia, Opera Neon, Perplexity’s Comet, and DuckDuckGo’s browser, even as OpenAI’s Atlas browser has shut down. Rivals including Mozilla, Microsoft, and Brave have already followed Chrome’s lead in adopting faster release schedules.

Separately, Google Cloud and Accenture announced a joint unit, the Accenture Gemini Enterprise Business Group, to embed engineers directly with enterprise clients and help them adopt Google’s AI tools. The move mirrors similar “forward-deployed engineer” bets by OpenAI, Anthropic, Microsoft, and Amazon. Google will train up to 1,000 Accenture engineers to build custom applications on its Gemini Enterprise platform.

The push comes as Google Cloud, led within Alphabet, generated $24.8 billion in the second quarter, even as Alphabet has reportedly accumulated $811 billion in purchase commitments. According to Ramp, Google accounts for roughly 6% of enterprise AI spending among its customers, trailing Anthropic and OpenAI, though a Google spokesperson noted this excludes major strategic deals with companies like Oracle and Meta. The Accenture deal follows earlier Google Cloud commitments with Capgemini, Cognizant, Deloitte, and CVC Capital Partners, as it races to close enterprise deployment gaps against competitors like Anthropic’s Ode and OpenAI’s Deployment Co.
