Meta’s personal AI agent Muse has passed 3.4 million downloads since its September 8 launch, according to the latest estimates from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower, up from 2.5 million at the start of the week. The surge follows Meta’s promotion of the app at its Connect developer conference and strong early reviews praising its polished design and the capable Muse Spark model powering it.
Estimates vary across firms. Apptopia puts total downloads at 4.3 million, including 2.6 million on iOS, while Appfigures estimates roughly 2.3 million, split almost evenly between iOS and Android. Muse is currently available only in the U.S. and Canada. Sensor Tower’s figures, which can lag real-world adoption, do not yet fully reflect the Connect announcements, though the firm said daily active users climbed 27% the day after the event.
Muse was already growing quickly before the conference. Sensor Tower said the app averaged 55% day-over-day download growth in its first ten days, compared with 24% for ChatGPT over the same period, while download growth for Claude and Grok declined during their launches. Muse reached №1 on the U.S. App Store on September 18 and topped Google Play a day later, holding both positions since.
Meta has backed the app with the same cross-platform promotion that helped Threads surpass 500 million monthly active users. Head of Threads Connor Hayes told Business Insider that Muse promotions differ by showcasing specific tasks the agent could perform for each user based on what Meta understands would help them. Sensor Tower said Muse received the majority of Meta’s house ads within ten days, ahead of Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, and Meta is also advertising on Reddit, TikTok and YouTube. By September 22, Muse ranked among the top 10 brands by ad spend, though ads accounted for only 6% of impressions through September 19, suggesting much of its growth has been organic.
Meta has now opened an early access program for Muse’s upcoming features, inviting users to ask the agent to add them to the list via a prompt shared on X. Rather than relying on randomized testing, the company is targeting AI enthusiasts who use multiple agents and understand the market.
Features announced at Connect include a digital avatar users can video chat with, expanded shopping partnerships and connectors, computer use on the Mac app, a dedicated email address, and integration with Meta’s AI glasses through a wake word.
