Google DeepMind is building a new robotics lab in the Boston area as it expands a hardware team focused on bringing advanced AI into physical systems.
Aaron Saunders, former Boston Dynamics CTO and current Google DeepMind vice president of embodied systems and robotics, made the announcement in a LinkedIn recruitment post Monday. Saunders said the team has been under development since he joined Google DeepMind almost a year ago and will be housed in the new facility in Cambridge.
“If you’re a machinist, engineer or researcher driven by the greatest technical challenge to bring the benefits of AGI into the physical world — get in touch,” Saunders wrote.
Saunders joined Google DeepMind in November 2025 after more than two decades at Boston Dynamics, where he became chief technology officer in 2021. His work there included legged and mobile robots such as Atlas and Spot, following earlier engineering roles that helped move Boston Dynamics’ systems from research prototypes toward real-world deployment.
