YouTube Music Adds Labels to Flag AI-Generated Songs

YouTube Music has begun rolling out labels that identify songs created with generative AI, including tracks where AI played a role in composition or vocals. The label appears on the player page, where listeners can click through to see the specific role AI played in a track, and will also extend to the main YouTube app.
YouTube said it worked with music partners and used its own detection tools to identify AI-generated music. Partners can declare their use of generative AI under three designations: Fully Gen AI for tracks generated entirely by AI, Partly Gen AI for works combining AI components with the artist’s own live elements, and No Gen AI, which also covers tracks edited with pitch-correction tools such as Auto-Tune.
The move comes as AI-generated music spreads rapidly across streaming services. Apple Music plans to introduce Made With AI labels later this year, while Spotify already labels AI tracks. Deezer, which reported receiving nearly 90,000 fully AI-generated tracks daily, and TIDAL have taken stricter stances, limiting the reach and royalties of such music.
YouTube, by contrast, is prioritizing disclosure over restrictions, meaning AI involvement alone does not make a track ineligible for monetization. The company also experiments with AI music creation through its Dream Track tool.
