Anthropic Expected to Receive High Junk Credit Rating After IPO, FT Reports
Anthropic is expected to receive a high “junk” rating from credit rating agencies following its initial public offering, according to the Financial Times.
The FT reported that Blackstone, the anchor investor in a recent $63 billion deal to finance Anthropic’s chips, told investors in that deal it now expects the AI lab to be rated in the double B range, the top tier of speculative grade. Blackstone had previously said the Claude maker would achieve an investment-grade rating, signaling low risk for lenders, before 2027.
Anthropic and Blackstone both declined to comment when contacted by TechCrunch.
While Blackstone’s view is only a forecast, a high junk rating would make it harder and more expensive for Anthropic to secure the financing needed to support its heavy spending. The company has signed a series of large compute deals over the past 12 months, raising concerns among some investors about the scale of its commitments.
Anthropic formally filed to go public earlier this week, prompting widespread speculation about how one of the largest listings in the AI sector will affect the broader industry and the financing landscape for AI infrastructure.
