RedBird Capital and Sound Ventures Form $1B AI and Media Investment Partnership

two people shaking hands

Gerry Cardinale’s RedBird Capital Partners has struck a $1 billion investment partnership with Guy Oseary’s Sound Ventures, expanding the private equity firm’s reach into artificial intelligence and emerging technology alongside its growing media and entertainment portfolio.

The two firms will invest in companies spanning technology, media and culture. RedBird will contribute its investment platform and experience scaling businesses, while Sound Ventures brings relationships with technology founders and a track record in AI startups. Cardinale said the partnership puts RedBird’s institutional platform and strategic network behind the next generation of business builders.

Sound Ventures, co-founded by Oseary and Ashton Kutcher in 2015, was an early investor in OpenAI and Anthropic and has also backed Spotify and Uber. Kutcher left earlier this year to launch a separate venture firm but remains a senior adviser. RedBird’s AI unit, RedBird X, led by Hamid Biglari, will help evaluate and support investments.

The deal follows RedBird’s additional $4 billion commitment to David Ellison’s Skydance, bringing its total investment in the combined Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery business to $6 billion, as well as its agreement to acquire a majority stake in Puck. No initial investments or allocation details have been disclosed.
