Andromeda Robotics has raised $3 million in a seed round led by Purpose Ventures, following $1 million in pre-seed funding from Galileo Ventures in late 2023. Founded in 2022 by robotics engineer Grace Brown, Andromeda aims to scale its humanoid companion robot, Abi, across Australia.
Abi, designed with input from Disney and Pixar animators, provides companionship and support to older adults in aged care facilities and children in hospitals. The robot uses AI and machine learning to customize its interactions, respond to questions, and express emotions. Abi can also recognize faces and remember past interactions.
The robot assists with daily tasks and offers social and cognitive support, enhancing the quality of life and independence for its users. Abi’s personality is customizable through an upcoming app, with options such as a sarcastic coach being popular.
Andromeda has achieved significant progress with limited funding, challenging the idea that only SaaS startups can succeed in the Australian market. The new $3 million funding will enhance Abi’s capabilities, expand the team, and support a move to larger manufacturing facilities in South Melbourne.
