IBM Reveals Open-Source AI Models for Businesses as Generative AI Competition Intensifies

IBM has released the latest version of its AI models, “Granite 3.0,” designed for businesses adopting generative AI technology. These models will be open-source, continuing IBM’s approach with its Granite AI family, contrasting with competitors like Microsoft, which charges for access.

IBM also offers Watsonx, a paid tool for running and customizing AI models within enterprise data centers.

Starting Monday, some Granite models are available for commercial use on the Watsonx platform and NVIDIA’s AI software stack. The Granite models were trained using Nvidia’s H100 GPUs, according to IBM’s Director of Research, Dario Gil.
