NVIDIA and AMD are preparing to release new AI chips tailored for the Chinese market in response to ongoing U.S. export controls on advanced semiconductor technology, according to a report from DigiTimes.
NVIDIA will introduce a scaled-down AI GPU, codenamed “B20,” while AMD plans to roll out the Radeon AI PRO R9700, designed to support AI workloads for workstations. Both products are expected to hit the Chinese market as early as July.
The move comes as NVIDIA faces significant financial impact from U.S. licensing rules, including a $4.5 billion charge in Q1 and a forecasted $8 billion revenue hit in Q2 due to restrictions on its high-end H20 chip. A new, lower-cost Blackwell-based GPU priced at $6,500–$8,000 is also in development.
