OpenAI Launches AgentKit to Accelerate AI Agent Development

Sam Altman, CEO of OpenAI, unveiled AgentKit at the company’s Dev Day event, introducing a new toolkit designed to streamline how developers build, deploy, and manage AI agents. Positioned as a comprehensive suite within the OpenAI platform, AgentKit enables faster prototyping and deployment of autonomous systems capable of handling complex workflows.

The release underscores OpenAI’s strategy to strengthen its developer ecosystem as enterprises increasingly adopt AI agents that perform dynamic tasks beyond simple prompt responses. AgentKit includes core components such as Agent Builder for visual design, ChatKit for embedding chat interfaces, and Evals for Agents for performance measurement and optimization.

The toolkit also integrates a secure connector registry, allowing agents to link with internal and third-party systems through administrative controls. Demonstrating its simplicity, an OpenAI engineer built two functioning agents live onstage in under eight minutes. The launch follows ChatGPT’s rapid growth to 800 million weekly active users, reinforcing OpenAI’s leadership in accessible AI development tools.
