Meta Cuts 600 Positions in AI Division as Part of Superintelligence Lab Reorganization

Meta has announced plans to eliminate approximately 600 roles within its superintelligence lab, marking another phase of its broader internal restructuring. The move was confirmed in a memo from Chief AI Officer Alexandr Wang, who said the changes are intended to streamline decision-making and increase the impact of remaining team members.

The reorganization follows a period of rapid hiring in Meta’s AI division, which recently recruited more than 50 researchers from rival firms including OpenAI and Anthropic. The company emphasized that most affected employees are expected to be reassigned within Meta as it continues to focus resources on developing advanced AI systems.

The decision aligns with CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s ongoing “year of efficiency” initiative, aimed at creating a leaner, more agile organization while maintaining Meta’s competitive edge in the global AI race.
