Apple Updates App Review Guidelines to Regulate Third-Party AI Data Sharing Ahead of Siri Overhaul

Apple has released an updated set of App Review Guidelines requiring developers to disclose and obtain user consentbefore sharing personal data with third-party AI systems. The policy change comes as the company prepares to roll out an AI-enhanced version of Siri in 2026, powered in part by Google’s Gemini technology, which will enable Siri to perform complex in-app actions through voice commands.

The revised guideline explicitly names AI companies among third parties subject to Apple’s strict data privacy standards, reinforcing compliance with regulations such as the GDPR and California Consumer Privacy Act. Apps found violating the rule risk removal from the App Store.

This update reflects Apple’s broader strategy to strengthen data protection as it expands its AI ecosystem, ensuring transparency and safeguarding user privacy across the growing landscape of AI-powered applications.
