Anthropic has launched Cowork, a new AI tool designed to make agent-style workflows more accessible within the Claude Desktop application. Built as a simplified counterpart to Claude Code, Cowork allows users to assign Claude access to a specific folder where it can read, analyze, and modify files, with all instructions handled through a standard chat interface rather than technical setup tools.
Currently available as a research preview to Max subscribers, Cowork is built on the Claude Agent SDK, using the same underlying models as Claude Code while reducing complexity for non-technical users. Anthropic said the tool reflects growing demand for agentic AI beyond coding, including document assembly, media management, and analysis tasks. The company emphasized that clear instructions remain essential, as Cowork can execute multi-step actions autonomously. The launch extends Anthropic’s rapid expansion of Claude Code interfaces following its debut in late 2024.
