Cove AI Collaboration Startup Team Joins Microsoft as Product Shuts Down

The team behind Cove, an AI-powered collaboration startup backed by Sequoia Capital, has joined Microsoft, with the company confirming the shutdown of its product and services. Founded in 2023 by Stephen Chau, Andy Szybalski, and Mike Chu, Cove developed an AI-driven infinite whiteboard designed to enable more flexible, context-rich collaboration beyond traditional chat interfaces.

The platform integrated AI with tools such as embedded browsing, documents, and images to generate structured outputs including tables and task workflows. The company had raised $6 million in seed funding from investors including Sequoia Capital and Elad Gil.

Cove indicated that its core ideas will continue within Microsoft’s AI ecosystem, aligning with the company’s broader push to integrate AI capabilities, including Copilot, into collaborative productivity tools.
