X Launches Hosted MCP Server to Connect AI Assistants Directly to Its Platform

X has unveiled a hosted Model Context Protocol server, giving AI tools such as Claude, Cursor, and Grok Build direct access to the platform through a user’s own account permissions, without requiring developers to build and maintain their own integration infrastructure.

The Model Context Protocol is an open standard that defines how AI models communicate with external tools and services. Previously, connecting an AI assistant to X meant building a custom MCP server, hosting it independently, and managing authentication. X’s hosted solution removes that overhead, allowing developers to authenticate via their existing X account and redirect their effort toward what they are actually building.

The server exposes existing X API capabilities, including post search, user lookups, and conversation and trend analysis, making them accessible to AI applications rather than introducing new data endpoints. X positions the move as reinforcing its identity as a real-time information network suited for AI retrieval and analysis.

Crucially, the hosted MCP does not include access to X’s Write API endpoints, meaning it cannot be used to post content autonomously. X also updated its API v2 earlier this year to address AI-generated spam, and recently raised publishing costs to further discourage misuse.

X joins GitHub, Slack, Notion, Stripe, and Salesforce in offering an official hosted MCP server.
