Jensen Huang Says ‘AGI Has Arrived’ with Latest OpenAI Model Astra
Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang said “AGI has arrived” in response to OpenAI’s release of Astra, which OpenAI describes as its most powerful and capable model to date, particularly for computer and browser use. Huang pointed out in a post on X that Astra was trained on more than 100,000 Nvidia Grace Blackwell NVLink72 GPUs and added that 400,000 more GPUs are coming online. (X)

In an OpenAI blog post, chief scientist Jakub Pachocki warned that no AI lab has solved alignment and monitoring well enough to continue scaling at maximum speed for much longer, while arguing that current progress could lead to recursive self-improvement in the next few years. He said OpenAI will focus on alignment, monitoring and defensive systems while supporting voluntary slowdowns, shared safety thresholds and international coordination on future AI development. AI Data Centers are Transforming Rural Land Markets — And Fueling a Backlash
CNBC reported that AI data-center construction is driving a land rush across the U.S., with purchases for future data centers reaching about $6 billion in the first half of 2026, up 79% from a year earlier. The buildout is raising rural property values and creating new business opportunities, while also prompting local opposition over land use, water, electricity costs and infrastructure, with several states considering or imposing restrictions on new projects. Education Experts Discuss Decision to Ban AI in New York City Public Schools for at Least this Year
New York City will impose at least a one-year ban on generative AI in public school classrooms below the high-school level as officials weigh concerns about data privacy and limited research on classroom use, according to CBS News. Former Schools Chancellor David Banks criticized a proposed two-year moratorium, arguing schools should instead develop age-appropriate guardrails because students are already using AI outside the classroom. OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra: Memory Key to AI Performance
OpenAI’s GPT-6 Astra scored 99.9% on the ARC-AGI-3 benchmark when using a memory-retaining mode, compared with 62.7% in a mode that resets most context between responses, South Korea’s The Chosun Daily reported. The memory-retaining setup also completed the benchmark 3.66 times faster and at a cost of $18,817, versus $26,100 for the standard mode, a difference of $7,283. (The Chosun Daily)

AI Summit Budapest 2026 will run Sept. 7-8 at Városliget, the Hungarian House of Music and the Museum of Ethnography in Budapest. The two-day event will feature more than 300 speakers across 10 stages, with sessions covering AI agents, healthcare, cybersecurity, education, finance, regulation, defense, media and the future of work. EASA Artificial Intelligence Days 2026
EASA Artificial Intelligence Days 2026 will run Sept. 9-10 at the European Union Aviation Safety Agency’s headquarters in Cologne, Germany, with online participation also available. The conference will cover AI in aviation, including assurance, human factors, ethics, regulation, reinforcement learning, large language models and knowledge-based AI, along with workshops and presentations of selected aviation AI use cases.
