Google has expanded its personal AI agent, Gemini Spark, to manage tasks within Google Photos, allowing users to request actions such as editing images, curating albums, automatically creating shared albums, converting event flyers into calendar appointments, and running other automated workflows.
Google Photos lead Shimrit Ben-Yair announced the update on social media Thursday evening, saying the new capabilities would roll out over the coming weeks to eligible Gemini AI Pro and Ultra subscribers in the U.S., with support currently limited to English. The company did not specify plans or a timeline for international availability.
The update reflects Google’s ongoing effort to make AI more appealing to everyday consumers by automating routine tasks like photo organization, at a moment when the broader AI industry is facing scrutiny over how well it has communicated the practical value of its technology to the public. Similar smaller-scale AI features have become common across the industry as companies compete to showcase incremental AI integration, even as some observers question whether such updates represent meaningful advances.
To use the feature, users must connect Google Photos to Gemini, enable Spark within the Gemini app, and enter a prompt describing the task they want completed.
