Meta’s Muse AI App Sees Modest Early Downloads Compared to Past Launches and Rivals

Meta’s new AI agent app, Muse, has been downloaded more than 83,000 times on iOS in the United States since its Tuesday launch, according to data from market intelligence firm Sensor Tower. While the app climbed to №2 on the App Store’s Top Charts, its debut trails behind previous Meta launches, including Threads, which drew 4.3 million U.S. downloads on its first day, and the Meta AI app, which saw 108,000 downloads at launch. Muse also lagged ChatGPT’s early pace, which reached roughly 83,300 daily downloads during its U.S.-only debut.

Muse’s performance on Android has been weaker, ranking №338 in Google Play’s Productivity category, with download figures not yet available. The app is also accessible via web and WhatsApp, though those numbers aren’t included in current estimates.

Muse represents one of Meta’s most significant bets on agentic AI, competing in a field that includes Google’s Gemini Spark and Anthropic’s Claude Cowork. Its most direct rival, Instinct, a text-based AI agent valued at $2.5 billion, has drawn attention from Silicon Valley for rapidly expanding features, including new email addresses for users and social coordination tools linking friends’ agents together, despite facing scrutiny over privacy practices.

Muse’s launch also came just days after Meta agreed to an $18 billion multistate settlement over social media-related consumer harms, adding context to its early reception.
