Insider Brief

  • Milrem Robotics and Chugach Alaska Corp. have signed a memorandum of cooperation to explore U.S.-based production, integration and support of Milrem’s unmanned ground systems for American and allied customers.
  • Chugach could become Milrem’s preferred U.S. industrial partner for assembly, sustainment, lifecycle support and configuration of systems for Defense Department, federal and commercial requirements.
  • The companies also plan to pursue Foreign Military Sales opportunities using U.S.-produced systems, though they have not disclosed planned investment, production volumes or a manufacturing timetable.

Milrem Robotics and Chugach Alaska Corp. have signed a memorandum of cooperation to explore producing and supporting Milrem’s unmanned ground systems in the U.S., including equipment for American customers and allied nations buying through U.S. Foreign Military Sales programs.

According to the Estonia-based Milrem, the companies signed the agreement at the Association of the United States Army’s 2026 Annual Meeting. Under the proposed arrangement, Chugach could become Milrem Robotics’ preferred U.S. industrial partner for production, assembly, integration, sustainment and lifecycle support.

“Our objective is not simply to sell systems into the United States, but to establish the capability to produce, integrate and sustain them there,” Milrem Robotics chief sales officer Stefan Behre said in the announcement. “A U.S. industrial base would allow us to better support American customers while also creating new opportunities to deliver Milrem systems to allied and partner nations through Foreign Military Sales. Chugach brings the industrial capabilities, infrastructure and understanding of the U.S. market needed to help us build that capability.”

The cooperation would cover Milrem’s current and future unmanned ground vehicles and autonomous systems. The companies plan to pursue potential requirements from the U.S. Department of War and other federal agencies, as well as commercial applications that can use the same technology.

A U.S. production base would also support Foreign Military Sales, or FMS, allowing allied and partner countries to procure U.S.-made Milrem systems through established American acquisition channels.

“Milrem Robotics’ systems are already in operational use on or part of robotics programs in 21 countries, and building and sustaining them here would give U.S. and allied forces a more direct path to that capability,” added Chugach CEO Jonathan Dalrymple. “For decades, Chugach has supported complex defense missions across shipbuilding, aviation, facilities, logistics, information warfare and technical services. We understand what it takes to integrate critical systems, sustain them over the long term, and deliver reliable support where the mission demands it.”

The companies have not disclosed production volumes, investment levels or a timetable for establishing manufacturing under the agreement.

Milrem Robotics develops unmanned ground vehicles and autonomous systems for defense and other applications. Chugach has about 5,000 employees supporting customers at 110 locations across 28 states and 10 countries, with operations serving government and industrial customers.
