VU Amsterdam Spin-Out Beyond Weather Raises €250K from LUMO Labs for Advanced AI-Powered Long-Range Forecasting

Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam spin-out Beyond Weather, based in Utrecht, has secured €250k from LUMO Labs to enhance its AI technology for long-range weather forecasting.

This funding builds on previous investments from TTT-AI, NWO, and Rabobank, which helped validate and advance their innovative forecasting solutions.

The startup specializes in delivering precise forecasts crucial for the energy and agricultural sectors, enabling these industries to manage risks and optimize profitability by anticipating severe weather impacts. Beyond Weather’s models, recognized for their accuracy and actionable data, also support humanitarian efforts in climate-vulnerable regions of the Global South.

Words from those involved in the funding round:

“Beyond Weather originated from a dedicated team of climate scientists at VU Amsterdam. We care about the risks of climate change, and we work passionately every day to bring predictability and actionability to society. We are immensely excited to have LUMO Labs on our side in this journey.”

— Jannes van Ingen, CEO of Beyond Weather

“Although we must all press on with our efforts to stop and reverse climate change, there is no denying that amid escalating climate change-induced weather events, today and in the foreseeable future, accurate forecasts are crucial.

Our investment will accelerate the implementation of Beyond Weather’s pioneering AI solutions, strengthening global weather prediction and enhancing climate resilience.”
