PRESS RELEASE — Toronto-based startup Talin has announced its pre-seed round raise of $775,000 CAD to grow its AI-powered talent acquisition and sales platform for staffing and recruiting agencies. The round was led by Cascade Seed Fund, with participation from DMZ Ventures, Ontario’s Ready for Market (R4M) Co-Investment Fund, led by the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI) and notable angels, including the founding team from prominent Toronto based RFP automation startup, Loopio.
Founded by CEO Julian D’Angelo and CTO Trevor Witjes, Talin is redefining how staffing agencies acquire customers and engage with talent. Unlike traditional recruitment tools, which are often designed with in-house corporate teams in mind, Talin’s platform is purpose-built for staffing agencies. The platform uses advanced AI algorithms to automate key processes such as lead generation, candidate outreach and personalized engagement, allowing agencies to scale their operations efficiently.
“There are a plethora of tools designed for recruitment; but very little designed for agencies. Staffing agencies operate in a completely different market, with unique needs and distinct workflows, yet AI has not been meaningfully integrated into our sector,” said Julian D’Angelo, CEO of Talin. “We’re excited to be at the forefront in bringing AI to an industry that’s been overlooked.”
The newly raised capital will enable Talin to expand into its next growth phase, focusing on hiring salespeople to drive market reach across North America. In parallel, the funding will also fuel continued product development, with enhancements planned to improve candidate sourcing, data analysis and communication features on the platform.
“We’re proud to back Talin in their mission to innovate within the staffing industry,” said Jafar Owainati, an investor in Talin’s round, Founder of Loopio and CEO of Barley, an HR tech platform focused on salary equity. “Talin’s focus on the unique needs of staffing agencies sets them apart in a crowded market, and we’re eager to see how they will transform the way agencies connect with both clients and candidates.”
“Through Ontario’s Ready for Market (R4M) Co-Investment Fund, OCI is proud to invest in innovative startups like Talin as they drive technological advancements and create new opportunities in our economy,” said Claudia Krywiak, President and CEO of the Ontario Centre of Innovation (OCI). “This significant pre-seed funding will enable Talin to further develop their AI-driven platform, helping staffing agencies streamline their operations and compete on a global stage. By fostering the growth of homegrown companies like Talin, we continue to position Ontario as a leader in innovation and entrepreneurship.”
Addressing a unique market need
Talin stands out by recognizing that staffing agencies have distinct requirements that differ significantly from in-house recruitment teams. The platform leverages AI to tailor its solutions to these unique workflows, optimizing everything from sourcing and candidate engagement to pipeline management and client communications. This allows agencies to spend less time on repetitive tasks and more time building relationships and closing deals.
The startup plans to develop strategic partnerships with leading staffing agencies, expand its reach into new markets and continue refining its platform to address the ever-evolving needs of the industry.
“Our mission is to empower staffing agencies with AI-driven tools that meet their specific needs,” added Trevor Witjes, CTO of Talin. “This investment allows us to push forward with our vision and continue setting new standards for efficiency and effectiveness in recruitment.”
