Bhanzu, a math-focused edtech startup, has secured $16.5 million in a Series B funding round led by Epiq Capital, with participation from Z3Partners, Lightspeed Ventures, and Eight Roads. CEO and founder Neelakantha Bhanu stated that the funding will fuel Bhanzu’s expansion into the U.S. and other international markets.
The investment will also bolster Bhanzu’s innovative approach to math education. Unlike traditional rote learning methods, Bhanzu’s AI-driven curriculum tailors instruction to individual learning styles, with the goal of reducing math anxiety and building problem-solving skills through small, interactive sessions. Bhanzu has seen significant growth since its last funding round of $15 million in September 2022, reporting eightfold growth and reaching cash-flow positivity. The company has a strong foothold in India, the U.S., the UK, and the Middle East, offering courses from kindergarten through grade nine.
Rishi Maheshwari, Managing Partner at Z3Partners, remarked that Bhanzu’s strong product-driven growth aligns with their focus on outcome-driven education, underscoring the positive unit economics and global expansion the company is experiencing. He noted that Bhanzu is at a strategic point to accelerate sustainable growth.
Bhanu, known as the world’s fastest human calculator, highlighted the U.S. math education market’s untapped potential, pointing out that it is dominated by large companies with outdated curricula, creating an opening for Bhanzu to transform math education in the region.
