Huawei has unveiled new AI infrastructure designed to expand compute capacity and strengthen its position against rival chipmaker Nvidia. Announced at the Huawei Connect conference in Shenzhen, the company introduced its SuperPoD Interconnect technology, which links up to 15,000 graphics cards, including its own Ascend AI chips, to deliver greater computing power for training and scaling advanced AI systems.
The system directly challenges Nvidia’s NVLink by enabling high-speed communication across clustered chips. While Huawei’s AI chips are individually less powerful than Nvidia’s, the ability to aggregate them at scale offers a competitive advantage in compute-intensive workloads.
The launch comes one day after China barred domestic firms from purchasing Nvidia’s latest AI servers, underscoring Huawei’s strategic push to fill the gap.
