Paid Raises $21M Seed to Build Infrastructure for the AI Agent Economy

Insider Brief

  • Paid raised $21.6M in an oversubscribed Seed round led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with FUSE and EQT Ventures, bringing total funding to $33.3M to build infrastructure for the emerging AI agent economy.
  • The platform enables companies to monetize and manage AI agent activity with features like outcome-based pricing, real-time cost tracking, and AI business intelligence — replacing outdated “per-seat” software models.
  • With early customers like IFS and Artisan reporting higher revenue and retention, Paid aims to become the economic backbone of agentic AI, helping businesses capture value in a trillion-dollar market by 2030.

PRESS RELEASE — Paid, the company building critical infrastructure to grow the AI agent economy, announced an oversubscribed $21.6 million Seed round. The round was led by Lightspeed Venture Partners with participation from new investor FUSE and existing investor EQT Ventures. This brings total funding raised to $33.3 million and the fresh capital will accelerate Paid’s mission to help AI Agent builders, from entrepreneurs to scaled SaaS companies, scale their businesses rapidly by monetizing AI agent activities.

By 2030, autonomous AI agents will contribute $19.9 trillion to the global economy, fundamentally reshaping how work gets done. AI agents are already replacing entire departments, automating complex workflows, and delivering outcomes that once required teams of humans. The “per-seat” pricing model for enterprise software wasn’t designed for the agentic AI era, and companies using this model can’t effectively price, track, or monetize these digital workers. Without proper economic infrastructure, the AI agent revolution will stall.

“We’re witnessing the biggest inflection point in SaaS since the transition from on-premise to cloud,” said Manny Medina, CEO and Founder of Paid. “Companies are turning to AI agents as their path back to sustainable growth, but today’s infrastructure wasn’t built for an agent-first world. The traditional ‘per seat’ model of paying for software doesn’t make sense when the software is eliminating seats. We need an entirely new model. With Paid, we’re building the foundation that will power the AI agent economy and help companies navigate this critical transition.”

“The AI era demands a fundamental rethinking of how software creates and captures value,” said Alexander Schmitt, Partner at Lightspeed Venture Partners. “As AI agents become an important form of digital labor, Paid’s infrastructure will be as essential as payment rails were for e-commerce. They’re not just building tools, they’re architecting the economic foundation for the next era of work.”

Paid is the first comprehensive business system purpose-built for AI agent work, providing the economic rails that make the SaaS-to-agent shift possible. The Paid platform hands five core needs traditional business systems cannot:

  • Customer Value Proofs — Make AI work visible, launch branded ROI portals in minutes, and drive renewals.
  • Custom Pricing — Deploy outcome- and value-based pricing models instantly, including success fees and revenue sharing.
  • Outcome-Based & Hybrid Models — Move beyond subscriptions to capture value dynamically.
  • True Cost Tracking — Monitor agent costs and margins in real time to scale profitably.
  • AI Business Intelligence — Dashboards and scenario planning for full visibility in an agent-first world.

Early Paid customers, including IFS and Artisan are seeing significant revenue increases, higher retention, and faster sales cycles after implementing proper AI agent monetization.

“Paid is an instrumental element in how we are scaling our AI Agent platform offering to our partners and customers. With Paid, we are able to bring agentic AI solutions into Industrial verticals at an accelerated pace,” said Mark Moffat, CEO of IFS.

“Paid quantified the outcomes we delivered and gave us the confidence to price on results,” said Jaspar Carmichael-Jack, CEO and Cofounder of Artisan. “Their platform turned promises into deals won and customers who stay longer.”

Paid’s platform is available now, free for developers, and integrates natively with Vercel, ElevenLabs, Retell, and leading agent frameworks, including AI SDK, n8n, LangChain, and LlamaIndex.
