Amazon in Early Talks on Potential $10B Investment in OpenAI to Deepen AI Infrastructure Ties

Amazon is reportedly in early-stage discussions to invest up to $10 billion in OpenAI, a move that would further strengthen its position in the global AI infrastructure race. According to reports, the proposed deal would involve OpenAI using Amazon’s custom AI chips, aligning the investment with Amazon Web Services’ broader silicon and cloud strategy. If completed, the transaction could value OpenAI at more than $500 billion.

The talks follow OpenAI’s recent transition to a for-profit structure, which expanded its ability to raise capital beyond existing backers. For Amazon, the discussions reflect a strategy of diversifying AI partnerships alongside its existing multibillion-dollar investment in Anthropic and continued development of its Trainium chip line. The potential deal would underscore the growing trend of reciprocal investments linking AI labs with cloud and hardware providers.
