Google has introduced a native Gemini app for macOS, extending its AI assistant directly into desktop workflows and aligning with offerings from competitors such as OpenAI and Anthropic. The application allows users to access Gemini instantly via a keyboard shortcut, enabling real-time assistance without switching between applications.
The app supports screen-level interaction, allowing users to share on-screen content, including local files, for contextual AI analysis. This enables tasks such as summarising complex charts or verifying information while working across documents and spreadsheets.
Google has also integrated generative capabilities, including image creation with Nano Banana and video generation with Veo. The Gemini app is now available globally for macOS users running version 15 and above, marking a further step in embedding AI directly into everyday computing environments.
