Runway CEO Advocates AI-Driven Film Production Model to Scale Output and Reduce Costs

Runway CEO Cristóbal Valenzuela has outlined a vision for transforming film production through AI, arguing that studios could significantly increase output by reallocating budgets across multiple projects rather than investing heavily in single films. Speaking at the Semafor World Economy Summit, Valenzuela positioned AI as a tool to shift the industry toward higher-volume content creation.

He indicated that AI is already reducing costs across the production pipeline, including scripting, planning, and visual effects, enabling studios to produce more content at lower cost. Runway’s technology is being adopted by studios and creators to streamline workflows and improve efficiency.

Valenzuela framed AI as expanding creative access, allowing more individuals to produce content, while acknowledging ongoing debate around its impact on artistic quality and the broader film industry.
