Anthropic and OpenAI Launch Rival Enterprise AI Joint Ventures Backed by Wall Street

Anthropic has announced a joint venture focused on enterprise AI deployment, with Blackstone, Hellman & Friedman, and Goldman Sachs as founding partners. Additional backers include Apollo Global Management, General Atlantic, Sequoia Capital, and GIC. The venture is valued at $1.5 billion, anchored by $300 million commitments each from Anthropic, Blackstone, and Hellman & Friedman.

The announcement came within hours of Bloomberg reporting that OpenAI is finalizing a similar vehicle called The Development Company, raising $4 billion from 19 investors at a $10 billion valuation, with backers including TPG, Brookfield, and Bain Capital.

Both ventures follow a forward-deployed engineering model, embedding technical teams directly within client organizations to build customized AI solutions. The structures give investors preferred access to AI contracts within their portfolio companies while expanding each lab’s enterprise sales reach — as both Anthropic and OpenAI pursue fundraising rounds valuing them near or above $900 billion ahead of anticipated IPOs.
