Elite Robots Collaborates with Generalist AI on Embodied AI

Insider Brief

  • Elite Robots worked with Generalist AI to support real-world data collection and algorithm validation for GEN-1, Generalist’s embodied foundation model for robotics.
  • Elite Robots said its cobot platform was used in physical testing that included more than 1,800 block-stacking tasks and more than 200 box-folding tasks completed without intervention.
  • Generalist AI raised $400 million in June to expand its physical AGI models, scale real-world data collection, increase computing infrastructure and support commercial deployments.

China’s Elite Robots announced it has worked with Generalist AI to support real-world data collection and algorithm validation for GEN-1, the AI startup’s embodied foundation model for robotics.

The U.S.-based Generalist AI recently unveiled GEN-1 and the Elite Robots said its cobot platform was used as part of the project’s physical testing and data work. The company reported a 99% task success rate and a threefold speed increase for the model as well as completing more than 1,800 block-stacking tasks and more than 200 box-folding tasks without intervention.

According to Elite, the cobot platform has a mean time between failures of 100,000 hours and repeatability of plus or minus 0.02 millimeters. Elite Robots added that its servo control helped accelerate model iteration while keeping robot motion smooth and predictable.

The company also cited the platform’s 360-degree motion range, force feedback and technical support network as part of its contribution to the collaboration.

Elite Robots said the work reflects its focus on providing hardware for embodied AI research and commercial robotics deployments.

Generalist AI announced in June it had raised $400 million in new funding, bringing its total funding to more than $500 million, to accelerate development of physical AGI for robotics. Radical Ventures led that round, with participation from 8VC, Union Square Ventures, Hanabi Capital, Norwest and existing backers including Nvidia’s NVentures, Boldstart Ventures, Spark Capital, Bezos Expeditions and NFDG.

In April, Teradyne Robotics secured a preliminary injunction in Germany against Elite Robots Deutschland over alleged copyright infringement involving Universal Robots software. The Hamburg court ordered Elite Robots’ German subsidiary to stop offering or distributing the disputed software and related products in Germany while the company considers further legal action against distributors and partners.
