Dopl Technologies raised $6.3 million in seed funding to develop a robotic ultrasound platform for remote diagnostic exams.
According to the company, the round was led by SpringTide Ventures and brings its total funding to more than $8 million. Other investors include WRF Capital, Tacoma Venture Fund, HeartX, Transform Health Ventures, Precursor Ventures and additional early-stage institutional investors.
Dopl plans to use the funding to pursue FDA clearance for its product ecosystem, support verification and validation work, conduct clinical evaluation and prepare for an initial market release. Dopl has completed FDA pre-submission engagement, established a 510(k) regulatory pathway and developed patented technology, according to the company.
“Our outstanding team is energized and now capitalized to move quickly through the regulatory process to deliver reliable, remote robotic ultrasound to patients who today must often travel hours to receive essential care,” said Ryan James, PhD, CEO and co-founder of Dopl Technologies. “This is a critical step toward providing specialty care, anywhere, through telerobotic and autonomous care delivery, bridging the healthcare divide that affects tens of millions of people in the United States alone.”
The company is developing a distributed ultrasound platform that would let sonographers perform diagnostic exams remotely across multiple care sites. Dopl is targeting hospitals and communities where patients often have limited access to specialized imaging services.
The product ecosystem includes:
Traverse: A remote robotic ultrasound system.
Dopl Connect: A secure connectivity and data platform.
SonoFlex: A clinical workforce and workflow management system for distributed care.
Dopl indicated its platform is hardware-agnostic, meaning it is designed to work with off-the-shelf robots, ultrasound systems, haptic controllers and cameras. The company said that approach is intended to make deployment easier within existing hospital infrastructure.
The company was founded in 2022 by a former Nvidia medical AI engineer, practicing cardiologists and radiologists. Its broader team includes experience from Butterfly Network, Philips, Microsoft and Amazon.
While it works toward FDA clearance, Dopl has launched CareBridge, a current ultrasound service designed to help hospitals cover patient needs. The company said CareBridge provides in-person coverage from traveling sonographers and helps maintain diagnostic ultrasound services for selected hospitals.
Dopl claimed that patients in communities where it operates have seen wait times reduced by up to 90%. The company said some of those hospital systems are expected to be among the first to pilot a transition to its telerobotic ultrasound platform after FDA clearance.
