Westlake Robotics has raised nearly 100 million yuan, or $14.8 million, in a Series A round to develop AI models for humanoid robots, bringing its total funding to about $74 million across four rounds in six months, according to Gasgoo.
Haiyuan Capital led the financing and Gasgoo reported the Hangzhou-based company plans to use the funding to develop what it calls a unified whole-body large model for humanoid robots and expand its embodied-intelligence research team.
Founded in 2021 by professor Wang Donglin as a commercialization project based on research from Westlake University, Westlake Robotics is developing a full technology stack spanning AI models, motion control and humanoid hardware.
Its core technology includes the GAE general motion model, which the company says allows humanoid robots to reproduce human movements in real time without task-specific programming. Gasgoo reported that Westlake Robotics said the system supports low-latency teleoperation, can transfer movements across different robot bodies and allows one operator using motion-capture equipment to control multiple robots.
The company also said GAE can be licensed for use on humanoid platforms from other manufacturers.
