Meta has introduced Muse, a personal AI agent designed to perform everyday tasks for consumers by connecting to their email, calendars, payment systems, and other frequently used apps. The launch comes less than two weeks after Meta agreed to an $18 billion multistate settlement over social media’s consumer harms.

Powered by Meta’s Muse Spark model, the agent can send emails, book travel, fill out forms, create shopping lists, and make purchases using Link by Stripe, with Shopify and 1Password integrations planned. Users can connect apps individually and customize the agent’s name and appearance. Muse will launch on the web, iOS, Android, and WhatsApp, with plans to expand to Meta’s AI glasses. The company will offer a free tier alongside paid plans priced at $20 and $100 per month.

Meta said Muse operates within a dedicated, secure virtual machine kept separate from other systems, and stated the agent does not access users’ passwords or payment credentials, nor share data with its advertising systems. The company positioned Muse as part of a broader industry shift toward AI agents that complete tasks rather than simply respond to questions, following similar efforts from other AI companies.

Given Meta’s history of privacy-related settlements and controversies, including past FTC penalties and data scandals, questions remain about whether consumers will extend the company sufficient trust to adopt an agent requiring deep access to their personal accounts and information.
