Destro AI raised $8 million in seed funding to expand a software platform designed to coordinate robots from different manufacturers across warehouse operations.
Base10 Partners and Bonfire Ventures co-led the round, with participation from CoFound Partners, according to the Brooklyn, N.Y.-based company. Destro said it plans to use the funding to expand enterprise deployments, develop its MothershipOS and VisionOS platforms and grow its engineering and research teams.
The company pointed out that operators deploying different types of hardware can face the challenge of coordinating those systems without tying their automation strategy to a single robot manufacturer, a problem created in part by the growing number of warehouse robots and automation platforms.
Destro is taking a robot-agnostic approach to warehouse automation, so rather than building its own robot, the company develops software intended to coordinate robots, workers and existing enterprise systems across warehouse workflows.
“Everyone is building capable robots,” founder and CEO Manthan Pawar said in the announcement. “We believe the next breakthrough won’t come from another robot. It will come from the intelligence layer that enables any robot to work together. Customers aren’t buying robots; they’re investing in throughput, reliability, and business outcomes. That’s what we’re building.”
Coordinating Robots and Tasks
Destro’s platform consists of two complementary systems:
- MothershipOS operates outside individual robots and determines which robot should perform a task, as well as where, when and how it should be completed. The system is designed to coordinate workflows involving different robots and other warehouse resources.
- VisionOS runs on the robot and handles mobile manipulation. It uses AI models trained from human demonstrations to help robots perceive their surroundings, grasp objects and interact with warehouse environments.
Together, the systems are designed to let warehouse operators automate workflows across different hardware platforms and change their robot fleets as operational requirements evolve.
Moving Into Production
Destro reported that its technology is already running in production with global third-party logistics providers less than a year after the company was founded. The startup has also begun generating commercial revenue.
Destro said its engineers and AI researchers work alongside warehouse operators on production floors as the company develops its systems, rather than limiting development to laboratory environments. Yusen Logistics (Americas) is among the companies using Destro’s human-robot collaboration technology.
