Meta Opens Muse to Hardware Hackers With Open Source Gadgets Project

Meta has introduced Muse Gadgets, an open source project that lets developers build their own hardware connected to Muse, its personal AI agent that books travel, fills out forms and shops on users’ behalf.

The company is providing open source firmware and a Linux SDK, along with starter ideas such as adding a color e-ink display or running Muse on an HDMI stick plugged into a TV. Developers can use low-cost boards like a Raspberry Pi or ESP32 to link Muse with displays, buttons, sensors and other components, and Meta has opened a Discord channel for support.

Nat Friedman, head of product at Meta Superintelligence Labs, said on X that Meta built its own device, Muse Home Link, a USB-C-powered gadget that connects Muse to home networks and smart devices such as speakers and TVs. Meta produced 5,000 units and is giving them free to Muse subscribers while supplies last, with shipping expected in a few weeks.

The project supports Meta’s wider push to extend Muse beyond a stand-alone chatbot. Earlier this week, the company introduced Muse for Small Business, a free tier with usage limits that connects to Shopify, Dropbox and Slack, and formed a new Meta Enterprise Platform unit to sell AI offerings to corporate customers.
