Figma has introduced Figma Specs, a Markdown-based editor that lets teams define their design language as a reference for both designers and AI agents, at its first Config event in India. Specs can exist as a standalone file or within the canvas, and can reference canvas elements and embed FigJam diagrams, code layers and designs. Teams can also bring in design libraries, code libraries and guidelines, creating a centralized system that Figma’s own and third-party agents can follow to stay within a brand’s design rules.
The move follows Figma making its on-canvas agent available to a wider user base, with the company providing tools to steer non-deterministic AI toward more predictable outcomes. Its code layers feature has also entered public beta, allowing interactive prototypes and letting users ask the agent to turn designs into code. Figma’s MCP now supports more than 20 new tools, including Open Code, Dia, Grok Bot and Indian AI startup Sarvam.
Chief design officer Loredana Crisan said AI has expanded the ability to build, noting that far more code is now produced than shipped, with much of it written to discover and design products.
Figma is also integrating Payload, the open source headless CMS it acquired last year, with Figma Make for generating dynamic websites. India is Figma’s largest user market outside the U.S.
