General Compute Secures $100M Series A for Inference-Focused Neocloud at $800M Valuation

General Compute, a neocloud built on specialized inference chips from Nvidia rivals, has closed a $100 million Series A led by Blackbird Ventures and Abstract Ventures, lifting its post-money valuation to $800 million from $60 million after a May seed round. The deal follows a customer agreement worth $100 million in annual recurring revenue.

The funding arrives as CoreWeave shares hit a 12-month low and Elon Musk predicts mass failure among neoclouds. Co-founder and CEO Finn Puklowski said fears of a collapse are greatly overstated, noting weekly requests from customers seeking more compute, and suggested Musk is aiming to push down GPU prices. He added that Anthropic’s S-1 filing is easing market concerns.

General Compute struck a $400 million deal for SambaNova chips, the first debt financing of inference chips, and has added Positron and Cerebras as suppliers. Rather than building large data centers, it rents space and converts former bitcoin-mining sites, expecting to deploy 75 megawatts in 2027. It supplies bare-metal servers to fast inference cloud providers.

James Palmer, principal at Blackbird, said chipmakers need distribution partners able to scale in the physical world. SambaNova CEO Rodrigo Liang said the real test is whether companies can sell inference speed profitably.
