Intel has unveiled new Xeon 6 processors and AI chips for data centers, aiming to regain ground from rivals NVIDIA and AMD in the booming AI industry. The Xeon 6 promises better performance and efficiency for intensive workloads. Intel also revealed competitive pricing for its Gaudi AI accelerators and outlined plans for upcoming Lunar Lake chips tailored for AI PCs.
“Customers are looking for high performance, cost-effective gen AI training and inferencing solutions. And they’ve started to turn to alternatives like Gaudi. They want choice. They want open software and hardware solutions and time to market solutions at dramatically lower TCOs [total cost of ownership],” CEO Patrick Gelsinger said.
This offensive comes as NVIDIA and AMD continue rapidly launching new data center chips, outpacing Intel’s AI chip rollouts. While Intel designs and manufactures its own chips, struggles in its foundry business have hindered progress, prompting the company to seek government funding to boost semiconductor manufacturing and R&D.
