At Computex 2023, Intel CEO Patrick Gelsinger didn’t mince words when taking aim at AI chip rival NVIDIA.
“Unlike what Jensen would have you believe, Moore’s Law is alive and well,” Gelsinger declared, referring to NVIDIA CEO Jensen Huang’s previous comments about traditional processors hitting a wall for advanced AI workloads.
Gelsinger boldly proclaimed Intel’s commitment to driving AI innovation.
“Intel has a unique position in this as the only company that gets to service 100% of the AI Tam an AI Continuum from semiconductors through products,” he said.
He also touted the company’s roadmap, saying: “As we look now to have a billion transistors on a single chip and even looking to a trillion transistors in a single package by the end of the decade…Moore’s Law is alive and well.”
The Intel CEO stressed the importance of Taiwan and partners in this AI era, expressing gratitude “for the partnership” and adding “Together we are paving the way for AI and we are breaking the barriers between people and AI and exploring incredible possibilities.”
While trailing NVIDIA in AI chips today, Intel is betting big that its manufacturing prowess and vertical hardware/software integration will help it catch up and potentially overtake the current AI leader. Only time will tell if Gelsinger’s words ring true as the AI chip battle rages on.
