OpenAI, the company behind ChatGPT, has raised $6.6 billion from investors, potentially valuing the company at $157 billion. Key backers include Microsoft, NVIDIA, Thrive Capital, and Khosla Ventures, along with new participants like Altimeter Capital, Fidelity, SoftBank, and Abu Dhabi’s MGX.
The funding comes amid internal restructuring and the departure of longtime CTO Mira Murati. Thrive Capital committed $1.2 billion, with the option to invest an additional $1 billion next year if revenue targets are met. OpenAI is also planning a tender offer to provide liquidity for employees, though details are yet to be finalized.
