BigBear.ai Receives $13.2M DoD Contract to Enhance AI-Powered Force Management

BigBear.ai (NYSE: BBAI), a leader in AI-driven decision intelligence solutions, has been awarded a $13.2 million sole-source contract by the U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) to support the Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff’s Directorate for Force Management (J-35). Over the next 3.5 years, BigBear.ai will deliver and maintain the ORION Decision Support Platform (DSP), which automates force management and data analytics for the DoD’s Joint Planning and Execution Community (JPEC).

CEO Kevin McAleenan stated that securing the contract underscores BigBear.ai’s capability to provide AI-powered solutions that drive data-driven decision-making at the highest levels of defense leadership. He highlighted ORION DSP’s critical role in optimizing force structure and emphasized the company’s commitment to leveraging AI, data analytics, and software development to support mission success.

The Directorate for Force Management oversees U.S. Armed Forces structure, policies, and resources to maintain optimal readiness and integrate global operations. BigBear.ai’s modernization of ORION DSP will enhance its scalability, adaptability, and analytical capabilities to meet evolving operational challenges. The platform integrates data from all military branches, provides real-time force visualization, and facilitates Course of Action (COA) development and strategic decision-making. ORION DSP has transformed contingency planning and crisis response, reducing analytical timelines from weeks to hours.

Awarded through the DoD’s Tradewinds Marketplace, the contract marks BigBear.ai’s second award through this AI/ML procurement vehicle. With this latest project, the company continues to advance AI-driven force management capabilities to strengthen national security and defense operations.
