OpenAI Temporarily Pulls io Acquisition Video After Trademark Order

OpenAI confirms that a court-issued temporary restraining order forced it to remove a promotional film featuring CEO Sam Altman and legendary designer Jony Ive and outlining OpenAI’s planned $6.5 billion purchase of their hardware venture io.

The injunction follows a trademark complaint by Alphabet-X spin-out iyO, which argues the “io” brand is confusingly similar to its own. OpenAI stated that the page “is temporarily down … we don’t agree with the complaint and are reviewing our options.”

Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman reported the transaction “is on track and has not dissolved.” Ive is still expected to lead design for forthcoming AI-powered devices once the deal closes.
