Spear AI Announces Seed Funding to Scale Maritime AI Platform and Expand Defense and Commercial Reach

Spear AI, a Washington, DC-based developer of artificial intelligence solutions for the maritime sector, has closed a seed funding round led by Scare the Bear Capital and Cortical Ventures. While the funding amount remains undisclosed, the investment will support the expansion of Spear AI’s core Horizon platform, accelerate product development, and deepen its sensor capabilities for maritime applications.

Founded in 2021, Spear AI integrates software, modular sensors, and engineering services to manage and analyze complex maritime data. Its Horizon system enables AI training and deployment using acoustic and sensor inputs, supporting mission-critical operations in domain awareness, undersea surveillance, and operational intelligence.

Already working with the U.S. Navy and Department of Defense, Spear AI plans to grow its technical team and extend its offerings to global commercial sectors, including logistics, energy, and infrastructure. With offices in Falmouth, Massachusetts, and Groton, Connecticut, the company is strategically positioned near leading maritime research and defense hubs, aiming to deliver AI-native tools tailored to the evolving demands of both national security and global maritime industries.
