Bret Taylor, board chair of OpenAI and CEO of AI agent startup Sierra, has said that while the industry is experiencing an AI bubble, the long-term economic impact will still be transformative. In a recent interview, Taylor aligned with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman’s view that significant financial losses are inevitable in the sector, but added that this does not diminish AI’s potential to reshape the global economy.
Taylor compared the current surge of investment and hype to the dot-com bubble of the 1990s, noting that although many companies failed, the broader thesis proved correct and unlocked massive value. He emphasized that AI will follow a similar trajectory, with lasting breakthroughs beyond the current speculative cycle.
