Black Forest Labs Closes $300M Series B to Accelerate Frontier AI Image Model Development

Black Forest Labs announced the closing of a $300 million Series B round, bringing the company to a $3.25 billion valuation as it expands its research into next-generation AI image foundation models. The round was co-led by Salesforce Ventures and AMP’s Anjney Midha, with participation from major global investors including a16z, NVIDIA, Northzone, Creandum, Earlybird VC, BroadLight Capital, General Catalyst, Temasek, Bain Capital Ventures, Air Street Capital, Visionaries Club, Canva, and Figma Ventures.

The company said the new capital will be directed toward advanced R&D as demand continues to grow for high-performance generative image systems. Since its launch in August 2024, Black Forest Labs has become one of Europe’s fastest-rising AI labs, powering image generation inside platforms such as Adobe, fal.ai, Picsart, ElevenLabs, VSCO, Vercel, and even Elon Musk’s Grok chatbot.

Black Forest Labs recently introduced Flux 2, its latest foundation model capable of 4K image generation, improved text rendering, and multi-image style referencing using up to 10 input images. The company’s founding team — Robin Rombach, Patrick Esser, and Andreas Blattmann — previously contributed to the creation of the Stable Diffusion models that helped popularize modern generative image technology.

The Series B funding positions Black Forest Labs to accelerate breakthroughs in image generation, editing, and multimodal visual intelligence as global competition in foundation models intensifies.
