Japanese AI avatar company AVITA has partnered with South Korea’s MegazoneCloud to develop and deploy physical AI systems that combine cloud infrastructure, robotics and conversational AI, according to the companies.

The companies said the collaboration will integrate AVITA’s avatar platforms with autonomous robots to enable customer-facing applications such as in-store guidance, consultation and employee training. MegazoneCloud will provide cloud and AI infrastructure along with global distribution, while AVITA will lead development of its avatar technology.

“We are delighted to partner with MegazoneCloud, a company with a strong global presence in the cloud market. With AI avatar technologies inspired by Professor Hiroshi Ishiguro’s vision, we aim to create new value in human communication across Korea and global markets,” COO & CFO Shogo Nishiguchi said in the announcement.

CEO of MegazoneCloud Doug Yeum said, “Through this partnership with AVITA, we expect to bring physical AI-based customer engagement services into real-world environments and advance corporate customer service operations into intelligent AI-driven services.”

The joint systems are designed to move beyond scripted automation, using AI to perceive environments, interact with users and perform tasks in real-world settings, according to the companies. Initial deployments are expected in retail and finance, including unmanned checkout, customer service and training use cases.
