Generative Bionics Launches Humanoid Robot Platform Designed for Industrial Work Alongside Humans

Generative Bionics unveiled Gene.01, a humanoid robot platform designed for industrial work alongside people.

According to the Italian startup, the humanoid platform combines full-body tactile sensing with what it calls physics-native AI. The idea is to design the robot’s body, mechanics and intelligence together, rather than treating hardware and software as separate problems.

Gene.01 is scheduled to make its U.S. debut at AMD Advancing AI 2026 later this week.

“Unlike other one-size fits all humanoids, Gene.01 is a scalable platform, customized at the edge of AI, design and end-effector level to maximize each customer’s needs. It is also the first expression of our belief that physical AI must be human-aware, physics-native and industrial from day one,” CEO Daniele Pucci said in the announcement. “In six months, our team moved from concept to a fully functional and sensorized humanoid platform by combining deep humanoid robotics expertise with AI, biomechanics and design. Our goal is to amplify humans with robots that can sense, feel and learn from the physical world — and adapt to the specific industrial work each customer needs.”

The Tailored Robot

The robot is not meant to be a single fixed product for every customer. Generative Bionics is treating Gene.01 as the base for a family of humanoid robots tailored to specific industrial tasks. For each use case, the company said it can adapt the AI, exterior design and end effectors, including hands and feet. Target markets include logistics, manufacturing, public safety, inspection and healthcare.

Generative Bionics indicated it is already adapting Gene.01 for its first industrial deployment through a collaboration with shipbuilder Fincantieri that inlcudes a welding humanoid built for complex shipyard environments.

The company emphasized that Gene.01 is designed around human collaboration. Its sensing system includes tactile skin that can detect touch, temperature, proximity and force. That gives the robot more information about people and objects around it to help it respond before and during contact.

Force sensing also gives the platform a way to learn more than motion. A person can demonstrate not only how a task is done, but also how much force is needed, such as how tightly to grip an object.

Roots of the Platform

Generative Bionics noted the platform builds on research from its founding team at the Istituto Italiano di Tecnologia. That research was published July 13 in Nature Machine Intelligence in a paper on shared embodied intelligence and the human-aware ergoCub robot. Generative Bionics said nearly half of its 100-person team hold PhDs and bring experience from humanoid robotics projects including iCub, iRonCub, ergoCub, wearables, teleoperation and physical AI.

The company is also open-sourcing the robot model so physical AI developers can use it as a base for industry-specific applications. The open model is being made available through software channels commonly used by robotics developers, including PyPI, conda-forge and the official ROS build farm. Generative Bionics said that setup is meant to let developers bring Gene.01 into existing AI, simulation and robotics environments without configuring a separate repository by hand.

Designed in Europe, Built in Europe

The company is also building a European supply chain around the platform. Generative Bionics said it has formed a strategic partnership with Synapticon, a German actuation specialist, to develop an EU-based actuation stack for its humanoid robots, starting with Gene.01.

That collaboration includes European final assembly, calibration and safety testing, as well as integrated actuators designed for Gene.01’s mechanical, thermal and control requirements. The company has also appointed Federico Santini as chief production and industrialization officer to help expand production capacity. Santini previously served as head of vehicle assembly and plant manager at Ferrari.
