Norbert Health has raised $14 million in Series A funding to expand a physical AI platform that gives mobile robots clinical skills for use as autonomous nursing assistants.

According to the Brooklyn-N.Y., startup, the round was supported by William A. Marino with Cardinal Group, with participation from Exor Seeds, CareIT and angel investors including Datadog founders Alexis Le-Quoc and Olivier Pomel, Noom co-founder Saeju Jeong and Owkin co-founder Thomas Clozel. Norbert Health has raised $19 million to date.

Norbert said the new capital will be used to expand its library of clinical capabilities, advance regulatory clearances and increase deployments across skilled nursing facilities and additional care settings.

“Healthcare in the US is short close to a million nurses, and more than two million trained nurses no longer want to work bedside because the job keeps getting harder,” co-founder and CEO Alex Winter noted in the announcement. “Robots that assist nurses can help reduce the burden, but only if they have clinical skills. Previous attempts put logistics robots on healthcare floors and never touched the core of a nurse’s work. Norbert-powered robots build clinical skills in the real world, and they are the reliable path to the generic humanoid care helper of tomorrow. This round lets us accelerate.”

The company develops a software and sensing system that runs on partner robotic hardware. Norbert said the platform adds clinical capabilities to robots that can already navigate and carry items, allowing them to make rounds, capture patient vital signs without physical contact, conduct assessments, respond to patient requests and document encounters in electronic health records.

Norbert said its technology combines contactless physiological sensing with tools for monitoring mobility, motor function, cognitive and mental health markers, and behavioral and social activity. Its interaction software is designed to communicate with patients across multiple languages and communication styles, conduct structured assessments and coordinate with healthcare staff.

The company is developing additional capabilities including post-fall neurological evaluations, pressure-injury prevention protocols, cognitive screening and fall-risk reassessments. Norbert said new capabilities can be deployed across its existing installed base.

Norbert said its systems have been operating in skilled nursing facilities since August 2025 and are making rounds on hundreds of patients each day. The company reported patient acceptance has reached 96%, while monitoring compliance is 82%, nearly twice its baseline for manual remote monitoring.

The company pointed out that its robots are also being used to identify acute events earlier and support reimbursable care programs.
