Insider Brief
- The Association for Advancing Automation will hold its International Robot Safety Conference Nov. 3-5 at Huntington Place in Detroit, with sessions focused on updated safety requirements for industrial robots, humanoids, mobile systems and other emerging automation technologies.
- A central focus will be the updated R15.06-2025 robot safety standard, with speakers from Amazon Robotics, Agility Robotics, Boston Dynamics, Nvidia, Procter & Gamble and OSHA addressing topics including industrial and mobile robot requirements, humanoid and legged robot safety, Physical AI and existing installations.
- A3 said additional sessions will cover risk assessment, hazards in conventional robot cells, system-integrator responsibilities and OSHA’s approach to industrial robot safety, with full and partial conference registration now open.
The Association for Advancing Automation will bring its International Robot Safety Conference to Detroit next month, with speakers from Amazon Robotics, Nvidia, Boston Dynamics, OSHA and other organizations addressing updated safety requirements for industrial robots and newer systems such as humanoids and mobile robots. The conference will run Nov. 3-5 at Huntington Place and is geared toward engineers, safety professionals, manufacturers and system integrators working with industrial automation, according to A3.
“Robot safety requirements have to translate into decisions people can make on the plant floor,” said Carole Franklin, A3’s director of standards development, robotics. “IRSC gives attendees a chance to work through those questions directly with the experts who develop and apply the standards.”
According to A3, the central focus will be the updated R15.06-2025 robot safety standard and how the changes affect existing installations, collaborative robots, mobile systems and emerging robot technologies, according to A3. Sessions will also examine how safety rules apply as robots become more mobile, adaptable and capable of working closer to people.
Among the planned sessions:
- Amazon Robotics’ Jamison Harrell-Latham and Krupal Patel will address new requirements for industrial and mobile robot users under R15.06 Part 3 and R15.08 Part 3.
- Agility Robotics’ Kevin Reese and Boston Dynamics’ Federico Vicentini will discuss safety issues involving humanoid and legged robots, including dynamically stable industrial mobile systems.
- Nvidia’s Riccardo Mariani will cover safety standardization and use cases involving Physical AI.
- Procter & Gamble’s Mark Lewandowski will focus on auditing and maintaining safety in existing robot installations.
A3 noted that other sessions will cover risk assessments, common hazards in traditional robot cells, the responsibilities of system integrators and OSHA’s approach to industrial robot safety. Speakers are also expected from ABB, Universal Robots, Yaskawa America, Mobile Industrial Robots, SICK and other automation companies.
The Detroit location puts the conference close to a large base of manufacturers and suppliers using industrial automation, giving attendees a direct connection to companies applying robot safety requirements in operating facilities, A3 noted.
Registration is open for full or partial attendance. Participants will have access to sessions on their selected days, tabletop exhibits and a networking reception. Certificates of attendance with continuing education credits are available upon request.
