Healthleap Announces $38M in Funding From Sequoia, First Round and Hummingbird to Flag Undiagnosed Hospital Conditions With AI

Healthleap, a startup whose AI platform reads patient records to identify people at risk of undiagnosed illnesses, has secured $38 million in combined seed and Series A funding. The financing includes an $8 million seed round co-led by Sequoia Capital and First Round Capital and a $30 million Series A led by Hummingbird Ventures.

Founded in South Africa in 2022 by siblings Jemima Meyer and CEO Josiah Meyer, the company began with a clinical nutrition tool for dietitians before pivoting to a broader platform. Healthleap plugs into hospital electronic health record systems and uses language models to extract signals from clinicians’ written notes, such as recent weight loss or difficulty swallowing, combining them with labs and vitals to surface patients needing closer review. Josiah Meyer said the system analyzes every adult inpatient’s record nightly and delivers a risk score into care teams’ existing workflows each morning. The software does not diagnose patients.

The platform now runs in more than 50 hospitals, including Penn Medicine, Cedars-Sinai and Emory Healthcare, screening for conditions like malnutrition and delirium. Meyer said revenue has grown more than tenfold over the past year. The funding will support engineering, product, sales and customer success as Healthleap aims to cover more than 40 major conditions and expand into outpatient and home care.
